Chick Peas

Price Range

$ 1 - $ 1

5 Health Star Rating Good source of fibre A source of protein Here, we present a deconstructed hummus, a favourite among vegans our humble Coles Chick Peas. In a can, no less. Inside said can, you'll find just 3 things: Chick peas, water and salt along with a good dose of fibre and protein. Our favourite ways to enjoy the modest chick pea is in a Turkish chick pea stew or, lightly flavoured the Greek way - with oil, lemon juice, parsley, salt, cumin, garlic and black pepper. Try them as a side to a Greek baked fish dish or tossed through a Mediterranean salad or mezze platter with Dolmas, Tzatziki and eggplant. An ingredient that can truly chameleon to suit any meal, its long-life nature makes for easy storing, a must-have for the pantry. Whether it's Indian curries, beloved Turkish dishes or Mediterranean delights, Coles Chick Peas are always ready.

I buy them regularly. I often make hommus dip with them, add them to home made soups and puree the soup along with the chickpeas to make the soup more filling and nutritious. A can of chickpeas are my go to protein source when I want to bump up the protein in a meal. I add them to rice or pasta salads and also season and oven roast them for a tasty, savoury crunchy snack which can be eaten as is or adding a handful into a nice greens salad. Chickpeas are never absent in my pantry. Buy them.

The Coles Chick Peas are great value for money. They are a staple in our home and we always have them in the pantry. They are ready to eat making them very versatile for many dishes like curries, soups, salads and dips like yummy hummus. The downside of chick peas is that they can cause abdominal discomfort. Rinsing, soaking and thoroughly cooking them with digestion-friendly herbs such as cumin and fennel is beneficial. Chick Peas also have all the vitamins , minerals, protein and fibre that boost overall health.
