1. Reliable & Consistent Rising McKenzie’s is known in Australia for strong performance. It gives: • good rise • even texture • fluffy cakes and muffins Great for beginners and experienced bakers. 2. Double-Acting — More Stable Results This means: • first reaction: when mixed with wet ingredients • second reaction: when heated in oven Helps avoid flat cakes and improves consistency. 3. Aluminium-Free (for most McKenzie’s formulas) Many bakers prefer aluminium-free baking powders because: • taste is cleaner • no metallic aftertaste • considered better for sensitive stomachs (Check the label, but most McKenzie’s products are aluminium-free.) 4. Long Shelf Life 300g container lasts months to a year if kept dry, making it great for regular baking. 5. Affordable & Easy to Find Available: • supermarkets • online stores • baking shops Price is budget-friendly. 6. Suitable for Many Recipes Works with: • cakes • muffins • pancakes • biscuits • scones Very versatile. ⸻ ❌ Negatives of McKenzie’s Baking Powder 1. Can Become Weak If Stored Wrong Exposure to moisture or humidity can cause it to lose rising power. Symptoms of expired baking powder: • cakes don’t rise • heavy / dense texture It needs to be stored in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly sealed. 2. Contains Sodium (Not Ideal for Low-Salt Diets) Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate. This increases: • sodium intake • saltiness (in large amounts) People on low-sodium diets must reduce or avoid it. 3. Not Suitable for Recipes Requiring Yeast Some breads, doughs, pastries need yeast instead of baking powder. Using baking powder creates: • faster rise • different texture • less flavour development Not ideal for artisan or long-rise breads. 4. Taste Issues if Overused If too much is added: • can cause bitterness • soapy, metallic flavour • crumbly texture Proper measuring is important. 5. Contains Starch (Not Good for Some Diets) Baking powder includes cornstarch or similar starches. This may affect: • strict keto diets • starch-free diets • people with corn allergies (rare

I’ve been using McKenzie’s Baking Powder in my baking for quite some time, and it’s always been a reliable staple in my pantry. It’s an Australian made product, aluminium-free, and double-acting, which means it gives that extra lift during baking. I’ve found that it consistently helps cakes, muffins, and scones rise evenly without leaving any bitter aftertaste, which can sometimes happen with other brands. From a practical perspective, it’s affordable, easy to find in supermarkets, and comes in a resealable container that keeps it fresh. I also appreciate that McKenzie’s has been around for generations it feels like a trusted, long-standing brand. The only downside I’ve noticed is that because the container is cardboard with a pop-top lid, it’s not as airtight as it could be. If you don’t use it often, it can lose its potency over time. You also need to make sure to measure carefully too much baking powder can make baked goods taste a bit soapy, but that’s more about usage than the product itself. McKenzie’s Baking Powder is a pantry essential that delivers consistent results at a great price. While the packaging could be improved for long-term freshness, it’s hard to beat its reliability and value. For everyday home baking, it’s definitely one of my go-to products.
