Australian Hass avocados (PLU 6447) are highly regarded for their creamy texture, rich, nutty flavor, and consistent quality. Generally receiving positive feedback, they are considered excellent for salads and spreading. They are popular for ripening well, turning from green to a dark purple/black color when ready, and offering high nutritional value. Key Feedback and Characteristics: Ripening and Quality: Consumers frequently report that these avocados ripen well and have a high-quality, creamy texture. Color-Based Ripeness: Hard/Green: Ready in 3 days. Firm/Darker: Ready in 1-2 days. Soft/Dark Purple: Ready to eat. Shelf Life: They are noted to last well in the refrigerator. Usage: Ideal for guacamole, salads, and on toast due to their creamy texture. Appearance: They are characterized by thick, pebbly, dark purple/black skin when fully ripe. Potential Issues: Ripening Time: Some consumers find they can take a while to ripen, although placing them with bananas can speed this process. Seasonal Variation: As with all produce, quality can vary, though they are generally preferred over the green-skinned Shepard variety, which does not soften.
