useful to have - you need stamps for posting letters and the fact that they are self adhesive just means no faffing around and no worries they might fall off. i prefer them to older type stamps you have to lick to stick on.

my son is going on a term long camp for school and we will be writing letters to each other. I have purchased a book of 10 stamps and I will pre-stamp and label the envelopes for him.

gets the job done, just don’t appreciate needing to lick something in a public setting where my hands aren’t necessarily clean. there should be an easier way to do this, such as AusPost providing some sort of liquid to serve as adhesive. stamp designs are also less interesting and vibrant than they used to be
