This light-rye loaf from Abbott’s Bakery offers a mild, gentle rye character rather than a heavy-duty “German-style” rye. The crumb is soft and easy to bite into, which works well if you prefer lighter bread or are making sandwiches for kids. It’s a useful everyday bread, but if you’re after a robust rye flavour or dense texture you might find it a little underwhelming. On the plus side it toasts nicely, is fairly fibre-rich and tends to stay soft for a couple of days after purchase.
