5-Star Review of Afourer Mandarins
✅ Positives 1. Sweet, juicy flavour with brightness Afourers offer a nice balance of sugar and acidity, giving them a lively, refreshing taste. 2. Easy to peel & segment Their rind is relatively thin and peels off easily; the internal membranes are delicate, so segments separate cleanly. 3. Attractive appearance They have a vibrant red-orange colour and a glossy, slightly pebbled skin that looks appealing. 4. Moderate seed presence / possibility of low seed count Some Afourers are nearly seedless (especially under favorable cultivation and with controlled pollination) which makes them more convenient to eat. 5. Good storage capability (for citrus) In commercial settings, they can be stored under cool conditions (4–5 °C) for a number of weeks. 6. Productive trees The trees are vigorous and can produce large yields (if pruned/thinned properly) and can hold fruit late on the branch without severe degradation. 7. Consumer appeal / popularity Because of their flavor, peelability, and appearance, Afourers have become quite popular in markets where they are grown. ⸻ ⚠️ Negatives / Challenges 1. Seed variability While some fruits are nearly seedless, others may contain 1–5 seeds (or more, depending on cross-pollination). 2. Overcropping and alternate bearing The trees tend to overproduce, which can stress them; without thinning, you may see alternate heavy / light crop years. 3. Fruit size control needed Without proper thinning, the fruits may remain small to medium and less uniform. 4. Susceptible to sunburn In strong sun, fruits can suffer skin damage. 5. Not always fully seedless Because of pollination from nearby citrus, some fruits may have more seeds than ideal, reducing convenience. (This is related to the seed variability point above.) 6. Rind adherence to flesh While peelability is good, the rind is “tightly adhered” in many fruits, meaning you need to peel carefully to avoid tearing. 7. Relatively new / limited local data In some growing regions (e.g. Australia), Afourer is still relatively new, so some grower experience is still developing
