To be honest, retrievers will eat just about anything, but our old boy has a very sensitive stomach. He can nolonger handle bones or fresh chicken legs, so we feed a mix of chunkers and decent quality biscuits. He does very well on it. Any attempt to change the meat component creates flatulence and diarrhoea. The product will go off, as any meat product should unless it is loaded with nitrates and preservatives. But we just make sure that when we stock up, we keep it well chilled and it is fine. If owners are consistently getting spoilt product, then they probably need to look at how their supermarket is storing it. If a product is mouldy when opened, that is a sure sign it has been stored in a warm environment.
