Hens raised cage-free have room to move around and engage in natural chicken behaviour. this is thought to produce fresher tasting eggs with stronger shells than eggs from caged birds. Though not quite the same as free-range or pasture-raised eggs, cage-free is a good balance between ethics, availability and price.
