Zafarellli Spaghettini (#3) is one of the best everyday dried pastas I’ve found in the mid-price range in Australia — especially if you like a thinner, more delicate strand than regular spaghetti. Pros: • Cooks very evenly and quickly — usually 7–9 minutes to perfect al dente (check the packet as times can vary slightly) • Great texture: nice firm bite without being too hard in the centre, and it holds sauce beautifully • Thin diameter (spaghettini / thin spaghetti) makes it ideal for lighter, oil-based, garlic & chilli, seafood or simple tomato sauces — sauce clings really well • Very little starch foam during boiling compared to some cheaper brands • Consistent quality — I’ve bought multiple packets over the past year and never had a bad one • Excellent value for 500 g — often cheaper than Barilla or San Remo equivalent and performs just as well (or better) in many dishes Cons / minor notes: • Not quite in the same league as premium bronze-die Italian pastas (like De Cecco, Rummo, La Molisana or Martelli) in terms of super-rough surface and intense wheat flavour — if you’re doing a very simple aglio e olio or cacio e pepe and want maximum sauce grip, those are still a step above • The box is quite plain and doesn’t reseal — I usually transfer to a jar or clip after opening • Can overcook quite fast if you’re not paying attention (true of most thin pastas though) My favourite ways to use it: • Aglio, olio e peperoncino • Garlic prawns / chilli & garlic prawns • Pasta with clams or mussels • Simple Napoli / sugo with fresh basil • Cold pasta salads (it holds shape well after cooling) • Light carbonara-style dishes or pecorino & black pepper It cooks up bright yellow, doesn’t stick together if you give it a quick stir at the start, and reheats nicely the next day without turning mushy. For the price, this is consistently one of my top picks for weeknight pasta when I don’t want to open the expensive stuff. Great reliable choice — definitely worth keeping in the pantry. Would buy again: yes, regularly.
