5-Star Review of Sunrice White Rice Calrose Medium Grain
✅ Positives • It’s made from medium-grain rice: the grains are described as “soft, tender and succulent medium sized grains that retain moisture when cooked.” • It’s Australian-grown. The product description says it’s 100% Australian rice. • It’s naturally gluten-free (rice is naturally gluten free) and the product highlights that. • Versatile in cooking: The texture allows it to lock in moisture and it is good for dishes like paella, risotto, as well as desserts. • Simple ingredient list: Just “Medium Grain White Rice”. ⸻ ⚠️ Negatives / Things to watch • High in carbohydrates and calories: Per 100 g uncooked, it has about 79.1 g carbs, only about 6.8 g protein, and minimal fat. This means if you’re watching your carb intake (for weight loss, blood sugar, etc) you might need to control portion size. • Low in fibre: The dietary fibre content is very low (less than 1 g per 100 g) because white rice has had the bran and germ removed. • Less nutrient-dense compared to whole grain options: As a white rice, many of the micronutrients found in brown or whole grain rice are reduced. If you’re looking for higher vitamins/minerals/fibre, this may not be the optimal choice. • The “stickiness” could be a pro or a con: The rice tends to clump a little (“slightly sticky when cooked” according to one description) which is good for certain dishes (sushi, rice pudding) but maybe less ideal for a fluffy separate-grains style if that’s your preference
