Smith’s Crinkle Cut Original is still one of the better classic Aussie chip options in my opinion. Pros: • The crinkle cut is done really well — thick enough ridges that give satisfying crunch and hold salt/flavour nicely • Classic salted potato taste — nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned plain chips • Texture is consistently crispy (not too many soft or burnt pieces in the bag) • Decent size bag for the price (170 g actually feels like a proper share size or greedy solo session) • Still one of the few brands that doesn’t taste overly artificial or chemical-y compared to some supermarket own-brands Cons: • Salt level is quite high — if you’re sensitive to salt it can feel a bit aggressive after half the bag • Flavour is very safe/plain — if you want something more interesting these days you’ll probably reach for chicken, BBQ or salt & vinegar instead • Sometimes the ridges trap a lot of salt dust at the bottom (the classic “chip dust” lottery) Overall: Reliable, nostalgic, very moreish. Not groundbreaking, but when you just want a proper plain crinkle chip, these still deliver. Probably my go-to when I’m not in the mood to experiment with flavours. Would buy again? Yes.
