I bought continental cucumber and it was fresh and crisp. The skin was thin, and it had a mild, refreshing flavour. Perfect for salads, sandwiches, or snacking. Overall, a great quality and versatile vegetable.

Positives 👍 1. Very low in calories & hydrating • Very low energy (~12–15 kcal per 100 g), with high water content — good for hydration and low-calorie eating. 2. Good source of fibre and micronutrients • Contains some dietary fibre, potassium, vitamin C and trace minerals which support digestion and general nutrition. 3. Refreshing and versatile in meals • Mild, crisp flavour that works well raw (in salads, sandwiches, dips) and juices. 4. Easy to prepare • Thin skin often doesn’t need peeling — saves prep time and boosts nutrient retention. 5. Year-round availability • Commonly stocked fresh at Woolworths and other grocers throughout the year. ⸻ Negatives 👎 1. Low in calories and protein • Nutrition is mostly water; cucumber alone isn’t a source of significant energy or protein — not a standalone meal option. 2. Can contribute to digestive issues for some • Some people may experience mild gas, discomfort or more frequent urination from high water content. 3. Packaging concerns • Continental cucumbers are often individually wrapped in plastic at supermarkets to protect their thin skin — which raises environmental concerns. 4. Flavor and texture preference varies • More watery and milder tasting than some other cucumber types — some consumers find them less flavoursome or crisp. (Common consumer perception) 5. Spoilage risks • Thin skin and high water content can mean they deteriorate faster if not stored or used quickly
