This Woolworths Heart Smart Extra Lean Beef Mince is excellent! It's incredibly low in fat, making it perfect for healthy meals. The meat is fresh and cooks evenly, great for burgers or bolognese. Highly recommend for health-conscious cooks.

I’ve knocked one star down purely for the price point compared to other options. but it’s delicious and lean. I mostly use it for taco bowls. but it’s great and I love that it’s heart smart

made tacos for the family with this mince, great flavoured mince that is less fatty then others. it has the right amount in the packet for a serving for four people. use this mince for pasta as well.

Woolworths Heart Smart Extra Lean Beef Mince (500g) is the supermarket's attempt at making lean meat feel like a smart life choice without sacrificing too much joy in the kitchen. Labelled as ≤5% fat (95% meat, 100% Aussie beef), it's trimmed aggressively—no gristle surprises or excess fat rivers when you brown it. Per 100g: roughly 131 calories, 5g fat, 20-21g protein, negligible carbs. Ideal for anyone dodging grease while still wanting protein that doesn't taste like cardboard. In the pan, it performs reliably: cooks clean with minimal shrinkage if you don't blast it on high heat, stays reasonably moist in dishes like spag bol, lasagne, shepherd's pie, tacos, or burgers. The flavour is clean and straightforward—nothing overly beefy or rich, which some call bland compared to fattier options, but most appreciate the lack of oily aftermath. Texture holds up decently in slow-cooked meals, though it can dry out if overdone (pro tip: add a splash of stock or sauce early). Customer feedback leans heavily positive—Woolworths site averages around 4.8 stars from over 1,000 reviews, with praise for being "very lean but moist," "no fat hanging around," and great value for healthier meals. A few dissenters on forums claim it feels fattier than advertised (closer to 15-20% in look/smell/taste), but that's minority noise amid the "best lean mince" chorus. Price sits at about $11.50 for 500g ($23/kg), which feels fair for the extra-lean badge, especially on specials. It freezes well for batch cooking. Not gourmet grass-fed territory, but in the fluorescent-lit meat aisle, it's a solid, low-drama pick that delivers on the health promise without turning dinner into a disappointment. Reliable workhorse mince—worth grabbing if lean is your lane. 8/10.
