I love potatoes! You can make so many delicious things with them and they are filling and (in moderation) good for you. I usually buy washed white or red potatoes, as I don't like cleaning them, and I use enough to justify buying a whole bag like these ones from Coles. I'm planning to use some of these to make samosa filling, and I will use the rest to make things like mashed potato, potato chips, potato pieces in a slow-cooked curry or roast potatoes.

These prepacked baby white potatoes are a staple in my kitchen, especially for quick and easy side dishes. Their small, uniform size makes them ideal for boiling, roasting, or steaming without the need for peeling — a huge time-saver. The texture is smooth and waxy, and they hold their shape well after cooking, which is perfect for dishes like potato salads, tray bakes, or garlic butter potatoes. Flavor-wise, they’re mild and slightly nutty, which makes them versatile for pairing with herbs, spices, and sauces. I find them especially delicious when roasted with olive oil, rosemary, and a pinch of sea salt. The packaging is convenient, typically offering clean and ready-to-use potatoes, though occasional inspection is needed to ensure there are no spoiled ones. ⸻ ✅ Pros: • Convenient size: Perfect for fast cooking — no peeling or chopping needed. • Smooth texture: Waxy and firm, ideal for boiling, roasting, and salads. • Good shelf life: Stays fresh for over a week when stored in a cool, dark place. • Consistent quality: Most packs contain clean, evenly sized potatoes. • Mild flavor: Pairs well with a variety of dishes and seasonings. ⸻ ❌ Cons: • Occasional spoilage: Some packs may contain a soft or sprouting potato — check before storing. • Plastic packaging: Not environmentally friendly; could be improved with compostable or paper options. • Limited use in baking: Their waxy texture makes them less ideal for mashed or baked potato recipes that require fluffiness.
