✅ Positives • It’s high in protein: around 18 g of protein per 95 g can. • Low in carbohydrates: about 1 g or less per can. • Contains “olive oil blend” rather than heavy saturated-fats oils, which is better from a heart-health point of view. • One of the ingredients is tuna caught by purse seine (skipjack) which is often seen as a relatively more sustainable fishing method. • It’s convenient, shelf-stable, easy to store and use in quick meals or as a high-protein snack. ⸻ ⚠️ Negatives • Because it’s packed in an oil blend, the “olive oil blend” still adds extra fat (and calories) compared to tuna in water. For example, fat content is ~7.7 g per 95 g can. • There are some consumer complaints about the product quality/consistency. For example: “Awful dark mushy tuna content with minimal taste. Not a chunk in sight.” “Open a tin … was almost half full of oil and just over half the normal amount of tuna.” So you might occasionally get less tuna than expected, or quality/texture issues. • The oil adds extra calories compared to tuna in spring water, so if you’re trying to minimise fat or caloric intake that might be a factor. • As with most canned tuna, there is the usual concern around mercury and other trace contaminants (especially if someone is eating many servings frequently) — not unique to this product but something to keep in mind.
