Texture is al dente as long as you follow the recommended cooking instructions on the box. Note that penne is more recommended for cream sauces and the size of the Barilla penne is shaped perfect to pick up just the right amount of sauce without being overwhelming. Generally, I have no complaints about this pasta or Barilla pastas.
