The base coat definitely protects my nails and prevents damage as well as making the nail polish last longer. The top coat is amazing as well and makes the my nails really shiny and last for 2 weeks. Overall I would definitely recommend this product if you want to protect the strenth of your nails whilst allowing for the nail polish to last significantly longer than without it.
