Launching in 1993, Hellboy comics has developed an enormous cult following that has seen it spawn various films, video games and more. The story follows the life of Hellboy, a well-meaning demon who was summoned from Hell to Earth as a “baby” demon by Nazi occultists (spawning his hatred for Nazis). He was discovered by the Allied Forces; amongst them, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who formed the United States Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). Although a bit gruff, Hellboy shows none of the malevolence thought to be intrinsic to demons, and has an ironic sense of humour.
