This was on sale in Woolworths so I decided to try it. It is a vegan substitute for garlic. It is really good in Indian style cooking with vegetables

This hing powder has a strong, authentic aroma and adds a deep, savory flavor to dishes even in very small amounts. The texture is fine and easy to mix into cooking, especially for curries, lentils, and vegetable dishes. A little goes a long way, making it a great addition for anyone who enjoys bold, traditional seasoning.

this powder has a garlicky onion flavour. it does have a strong aroma but the flavour is actually quite mild. it is also said to aid in digestion

Be warned, this stuff is stinkyyyy! But it does make for a great substitution for garlic or onion if you’re sensitive. Works best if you place a few shakes into some heated oil - this helps to release the flavour. Can sometimes be tricky to find, but when you do it lasts for ages. Tip: once open, place in a glass jar so you don’t stink out your pantry.

I recently learned how to make Indian samosas, which we love in our household. The recipe had substitutions for the Indian spices that aren't readily available, but for the next time I made them I wanted to have the proper spices, so l ordered them online from a specialist spice shop. One ingredient in the filling is asafoetida, also known as hing. It's a wonderful yellow colour and it’s very tasty.

Good for Nepalese and Indian cooking offering aroma and taste that enhances dals and curries. It is budgey friendly. The strength and aroma might be weaker than other brands.

Hing powder is a pungent, aromatic spice commonly used in Indian cooking. A small pinch adds a deep, savory, umami flavor to dishes like dals, curries, and vegetable sautés. Its strong aroma mellows when cooked, giving a subtle onion-garlic-like taste. Overall, it’s a potent spice that enhances flavor with just a tiny amount. 🌿✨

great to add to curries for a very distinctive taste. only need a small amount since the flavour is quite pungent and can be a substitute for garlic and onion.
