it really depends on the season in the story mature of buying your onions. Sometimes it is better to be able to choose your own and pick the quality. A really great product for a staple in any meal

these are a daily staple in my cooking. they caramelise beautifully and are also great raw in salads or to add some zing to a sandwich or wrap. baked, fried, raw or pickled, best onions all round!

We normally buy onions by the bagful but we didn’t need as many on our last shop so we just bought a few loose ones. The big advantage of buying loose onions is you can easily see each individual onion to make sure there are no blemishes or bad bits on it and of course, if you only need a small number of onions, it’s the only way to buy them. These were nice and fresh and firm and went beautifully in our slow cooked casserole.
