7 Green capsicum vs red capsicum: which is healthier? Red capsicum feedback is generally positive, citing its sweetness and rich nutrient profile, especially high levels of vitamins C and A (beta-carotene). It is considered the sweetest variety because it is fully ripened, unlike green capsicum. It is also used in dishes for its flavor and health benefits, which include supporting immunity and eye health. Culinary feedback Taste: Red capsicums are the sweetest variety due to higher sugar content, making them a popular choice for many dishes. Usage: They are excellent in salads, used in roasted pepper recipes, or added to various cooked dishes. Preparation: Roasting red peppers can create a delicious, fresh flavor that many people prefer over store-bought options. Nutritional feedback Vitamins: Red capsicums are an excellent source of Vitamin C and are rich in beta-carotene (a precursor to Vitamin A). Antioxidants: They contain more antioxidants than other colors, including carotenoids. Other benefits: The nutrients in red capsicum can help support vision, skin health, and immune function. Health and wellness feedback Cholesterol: Some studies show that red pepper and its active compound, capsaicin, may help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while raising good cholesterol (HDL). Important considerations: While capsicum is beneficial, some people may experience side effects like stomach irritation from capsaicin, and it may not be safe in very large doses over long periods. How to choose red capsicum Look for fresh, crisp, and firm peppers without soft spots, slimy surfaces, or mold. The color should be a vibrant red, indicating it is fully ripened.
